The mobile revolution

It’s not possible nowadays to ignore smartphone and tablets when creating your website. The projected growth in smartphone use, and the trends in the way  consumers are adopting multi-channel habits when shopping and browsing online means that if you ignore mobiles you are increasingly ignoring a growing number of potential customers who won’t ever visit your site on a desktop PC. They are lost for good.

The mobile solution

One common mobile website design solution is for websites to keep an existing ‘desktop’ version unchanged and to simply redirect mobile-users to a separate mobile friendly site. This is OK, up to a point, and may initially be a cheaper option. But we much prefer to create mobile website designs right from the start that work just as well on your desktop PC as they do on your tablet as they do on your smartphone, one Site to bring them all together. Customers with existing websites might not immediately see the benefits of a redesign, but, having a single responsive website that works equally well on mobile, tablet, and PC  means so much less administrative and maintenance work will be required over the lifetime of that website.

  • Are property websites obsolete?

Nowadays, if you are an estate agent or a lettings agent, it’s likely that you get the majority of your leads from the big national property websites. Search for properties in your area and chances are it’s Rightmove and Zoopla monopolizing those all important first positions on the results page.

There is a temptation for many smaller agents to put all their efforts into just uploading property details onto the big property portals at the expense of their own website. But your website can still be a great asset to your business, and with the direct need to generate property leads through your own website lifted slightly, it’s a perfect time to shift the focus of your website away from just generating leads to making it more about adding value for the visitor.

Good, useful content is the key, as always, and when you consider how potentially complicated and stressful it can be buying or renting property, there are any number of really useful snippets of information you could add to your website to improve the visitor’s experience.

‘How To’ guides and regular articles written by your staff, or links to articles on the websites of any professional associations or organizations that you belong to, are one quick, easy way to improve your website’s content.

  • Property Plus goes live!

Property Plus is a small property letting agency based in Worcester, letting properties across Worcestershire, Herefordshire, and Gloucestershire. Highly regarded in the area, Property Plus makes it their mission to provide a friendly, useful service to both landlords and tenants. With agents in Worcester, Malvern, and Gloucester they have most of the Three Counties region well covered.

We’ve created a simple, easy to use site with ‘Quick search’ and ‘Advanced search’ features that allow visitors to quickly find properties, and feedback options allow tenants to request viewings or register an interest in properties.

The back end admin feature means individual agents can easily add new properties to the site or amend the details of properties they added previously, and the CMS means new content, articles, news items, customer testimonials or comments can be added on the fly.

Currently the website can be configured to feed property data to Rightmove and Zoopla on a regular schedule. The plan is to introduce new data feeds in the near future.

ecommerce Alternatives

For small, single shop retailers on the high street, creating and maintaining an full online e-shop can often be complicated and time consuming, a little too much extra effort for not enough extra reward.

There are alternative retail website designs that might suit your business better, like ‘Click and Collect’. Click and Collect has become a regular feature of many larger retail websites and there’s no reason why smaller retailers can’t adopt a similar feature in their websites.

C&C is growing in popularity, and it offers real benefits to adopters, with some research showing that customers who click and collect spend as much as 80% more per transaction than those who only shop in-store.
